Descendants List: Lazarus & Marianne (née Gutmann) STERN

The family of Lazarus and Marianne Stern of Gleicherwiesen and Hildburghausen intersected with the Samuel & Jette Baer family of Themar in several ways. First, Samuel’s & Jette’s daughter, Hedwig, was the second wife of Lazarus’s and Marianne’s eldest son, Abraham. She moved to Hildburghausen from Themar when she married Abraham in 1887.

Hedwig’s and Abraham’s son Hermann, b. 1891 in Hildburghausen, in turn, was the second husband of Selma Stern, née Schloss. He was also the first cousin of Selma’s first husband, Emil Bär, who was the son of Hedwig’s older sister, Karoline.

Hermann moved from Hildburghausen to Themar where he and Selma managed the S. J. Baer store on the Market Square. Under Hermann’s and Selma’s management, the store became known as Kaufhaus Stern.

The Descendants List has been assembled from an 1824 List of the Gleicherwiesen Community records (available through the digitized archival records of the Leo Baeck Institute), the data provided by Karl-Heinz Ross, ”Aus der Geschichte von Hildburghausen,” Heft 4, pp 28-9, and the Jewish Registers for Hildburghausen. Birth and death records for other German states have been accessed through Ancestry.com. A website dedicated to the Jews of Eisleben provided information about the family of two of Löser’s and Marjanne’s daughters, Betty and Therese. The specific citations for each individual are available in profiles developed in the geni.com database by members of the Baer family. Start with profile for Löser Lazarus Hirsch Stern.

As with all the descendants lists on this site, this is a work-in-progress and we welcome any corrections, modifications and additions. Please contact Sharon Meen @ s.meen79@gmail.com.
