Max and Alma Bachmann were known early on in the research about the Jewish community of Themar. But reassembling their families has been challenging: neither the Bachmann family nor the birth family of Alma Bachman, the Heimannsohn family, had roots in Thüringen.

Piece by piece, however, it has been possible to add to knowledge of both families. Internet resources have provided birth certificates, online databases family connections, and researchers in places of importance to the family histories.
